Indelibly You

whitewash these walls;
paint something new:
something so me,
yet indelibly you.

sand down this plaster;
scour out the stains:
don’t choke on the powder,
let the past keep the pain.

let’s mud up the cracks
and dents in this structure;
we’ll retrofit glass
and steel ‘gainst a rupture.

goodbye to graffiti,
scrawled careless and crude;
deliberate brush strokes
will paint something true.

then ribbons of color,
twined lines of hue,
will tell of something so me, yet
indelibly you.
